  Issue 31 05-24-2002
GRATEFUL NIGHT ON LAST MONDAY. WE GAINED TWO NEW MEMBERS. ANDREW AND PHIL THIS PAST WEEK. WELCOME TO THE CLUB.

AMONG THE HEAT IT WAS ALL AND ALL A GOOD TIME. SORRY I COULD NOT STAY FOR THE ENTIRE NIGHT AS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. I NEED TO BE AT WORK VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING. BY THE FIRST WEEK IN AUG. ALL SHOULD BE BACK TO NORMAL.

SUPER NEWS

OUR NEW MEMBERS "DREW" LEVAN DROPPED IN ON THE MINI RAMP THE FIRST TIME AND MADE IT. HE CLAIMS HE NEVER SKATED RAMPS LIKE THIS BEFORE BUT I QUESTION THAT! KEEP IT UP DREW. SEVERAL OTHERS OF YOU SKATED VERY WELL AND SOME OF YOU SKATED VERY POORLY. I WON’T MENTION NAMES.

TRUCK TIP

"FRUSTRATION BUSTS YOU UP"

IN THE WAKE OF THE PAST FEW MONTHS ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN SKATING BETTER EACH WEEK. HOW EVER NOW THAT YOUR LEVEL OF SKATING HAS PROGRESSED THE DAYS OF MAKING THE TRICK ON THE FIRST FEW ATTEMPTS ARE OVER!!! I SEE SEVERAL OF YOU THROWING BOARDS, STOMPING FEET AND QUITE FRANKLY LOOKING LIKE AN IDIOT TO THE OTHER SKATERS AND SPECTATORS. NOT ONLY ARE YOU FRUSTRATED BUT YOU WILL NOT MAKE THAT TRICK EVER IN A STATE OF MIND LIKE THAT. YOU MUST STAY FOCUSED AND CONCENTRATE. YOU WILL MAKE THE TRICK BUT THE DIFFICULTY OF THE THINGS WE TRY NOW IS MUCH HARDER AND REQUIRES MORE ATTEMPTS TO MAKE. KEEP YOU FRAME OF MIND AS CALM AS YOU CAN AND YOU WILL FIND IT MUCH EASIER.

Issue 29 05-24-2002
last weeks session was briefly interrupted by a work related issue for me so I did not get to see all of the good stuff. However I did get to see some of it.

First remember the Monday night session on Memorial day is canceled!! You may skate but please call me to advise me you will be there.

I got virtually no response on the logo’s so if you have one make sure to bring it the following Monday. We will pick it then.

Buster is skating on the 1st of June in Cleveland. I only have three people that want to go. The dead line is Sunday night May 26th. For those of you interested in knowing the details. Please call and or email. Those of you that I know are going I will call you.

Super news or possibly not so super!

Several really hard slams last week. Clayton slammed tough. Skate chick slammed hard and our editor of the web page Jim W. slammed so hard on Saturday he could not make it to skate on Monday. Hope you are all doing well and hope you shred soon.

Truck tip

with the weather getting hotter, last week I told you about clothing. This week we will talk about eating. Make sure you drink plenty of water or sports drinks. Stay away from the sodas. Try to eat before you skate. Eat good foods that digest well. Pizza or pasta is not the thing to be eating then skating. It will really slow you down when it is hot. Not to sound like your parents or any thing but an apple or some other fruit will satisfy the apatite and quench some of the thirst at the same time. Fruit digests easily and will not lay in your stomach. Find what foods and drink work for you. If you feel good you’ll skate good!!!

Issue 28 05-11-2002
yeeeeeehaaaa! The club just keeps getting better. Last week again we had 17 at the head count and a few more showed up afterwards. How sweet it is with the good weather and the great skating. What more could you ask for? Well a dump truck load of expense money, a better kick flip and super RAD air would be nice but we will not stretch it too far.

T-SHIRT DRIVE

for those of you that did not receive the email. After recent events we have discovered that the logo is not satisfactory. So we have opened up the logo to a contest to all that wish to participate. Have your picture of the logo you want in by next week. Email me or bring it on Monday night. May 20 th is the dead line we are going to print them by the first of June. For details ask me. There is stipulations for the logo!!

SUPER NEWS

holy !@#^ I saw Clay make a drop off of the funtastik ramp not once but two times. The first time he was so excited he kicked turned the other wall made it to the flat then bailed. Shawn is making it over the spine on a regular basis with authority. Keep it up. David B. Stayed on the mini ramp and made some super turns on coping. Time to move over to funtastik Dave. There is so much more that happened but I can not name them all. If you see a high light let me know for next week and futures to come.

TRIP

We are still planning the cleveland trip to see buster skate. So if you interested please let me know.

"TRUCK TIP"

"LETTING IT ALL HANG OUT"

well by now all of you know the skate board style of dress "GRUNGE". Well this style was not designed due to thrift shop clothing! It was meant to allow your body to move more freely. In recent months with the weather it has been tough to skate due to clothing restrictions. Well weather is nice. Wear what is comfortable. Make sure your pads fit correctly and leave ample room between clothing so sweat does not hinder your performance. My favorite was a cut of T-SHIRT at the shoulders.

Issue 26 and 27 05-02-2002

WOW what a great two weeks we had. First I would like to say that I’m sorry for not putting out a uddy news last week. Although I’m sorry I am glad I did not because now we have a lot to talk about. Wait till you read the super news. We will start with the past two sessions.

The week before we had 25 skaters and the session was very good. BUT last week was the best session ever! We only had 17 skaters but the level of skating was top notch. Everyone including the beginner skaters were skating the best they ever did. Every week I still see improvements but last week I saw SKATE BOARDING!

I’m still in awe about the way everyone skated.

I have a quote from me inspired by my brother Buster for you to read: "I have the utmost respect for street skaters. To watch what they do with a board is simply amazing. To see them ride a rail down a flight of steps is pretty cool but why don’t they do that on vert? I think they are "sceired" of heights". Now why did I print that? Well there has been entirely too much street style skating in the barn. Boards are flying everywhere where the spectators are from street skating in the middle. This needs to stop now! You can skate street in your drive way or in your community but the barn does not have the room. Besides you don’t have a vert ramp in your yard. Skate the ramps at the club not the flats. After all our name is "The Barn RAMP Skate Club"

SUPER NEWS

Buster Halterman finished 6th in Texas this past week end!!!!!!! Great job Buster! We are all "ROOTING FOR THE ROOSTER" !~$%^&

Buster heads to Vancouver Canada for the next contest.

GOOD LUCK!!

Keep your eyes open on tv for channels espn and oln. I’m sure we will see some skating on them. Hopefully Buster will be shown.

RUMOR HAS IT:

a PRO contest will be held in Cleveland Ohio at the end of May. I would like to get a group of skaters together to rent a van and go support our

HONORARY PRESIDENT!

At the "REAL DEAL" he needs all the support from THE BARN RAMP SKATE CLUB he can get. I will call for estimates but I believe that if we get 15 people at $15.00 ea. We can rent a van and pay for gas to get there and back.. It is a 5 hr ride one way. I am not sure if there is admission fees. I will get the details. Also to the parents. Just so you know. If we take personal vehicles it will be much less expensive. Also this will be a chaperoned club event so of course there will be no alcoholic beverages permitted.

If we can get it together great! If Buster skates: I’M GOING WITH OR WITH OUT YOU!

Other news

holy powell paralta ( did any one see the article on the front page of U.S.A Today?)well the movie of the birth of skateboarding is coming out. Its called Dog Town. Lets all go to see It.

Contest

last weeks board agreed that the contest will be in mid June. Last contest we had 29 skaters. I expect to have 50 or more this contest. I WILL NOT DO THIS ALONE!

It is OUR club not MY club so I need all the help I can get. Parents please volunteer to help in any way you can. Hopefully the "SKATE MOMS" can do the concession thing again. (They raised $98.00 last contest (thank you very much)). Joe from FUNTASTIK’S e-mailed me wanted to know when, where and how our club was doing. Hopefully you all are supporting FUNTASTIK’S by buying your equipment there. Remember They sponsor our club so return the favor!@~!

Super Super news

I saw the most awesome kick flip, twist, mcadoo, disaster, almost lose it but make it thing I ever saw. Jordan Lees made it! I saw It! Too bad it was on the FLAT!!!!

But on the vert I saw a lot of good stuff. Gennis T. Almost touched coping on vert!! Chad W. Made the axle stall!! (make the 50/50 now!!!) Tim S. skated with authority! Nate D. Almost made the rock-n-roll. I’m sure I did not mention all of the high lights but that is just a few.

TRUCK TIP

"AGGRESSIVE MANEUVERS"

we all skate aggressively, it is the nature of the sport. At time aggressiveness is not the answer to the trick. For example: if you want to drop in you must first make sure the ramp is clear, then "TAKE YOUR SNAKE". This is not aggression it is consideration. On the other hand forcing a trick while on the ramp is a aggressive maneuver. 9 times out of 10 you will not make it if you force it. Go back a few issues and read truck tips. It’s all about the FLOW! Take your time let others skate and think your flow into that trick. Don’t force It!

Issue 25 04-22-2002

skating last week was a total treat. The improvements just keep on coming faster and faster. Now that this is happening, more and more skaters are skating on off beat days which is a good thing. However (I will not mention any names) in recent weeks I have caught several skaters skating with out permission. The excuse usually is "well you weren’t home or you did not answer your phone". Well that answer is not good enough. You should all have my cell phone number. (318-7080) Call me I have it with me at all times. If I am out of range leave a message I will return the call. But remember leaving a message does not constitute permission! This really is not too much to ask. I need to know when someone is at the barn. You may ask why do I need to know. Well wouldn’t you want to know if some one was skate boarding in your garage? Certainly you would. From here on out any skater caught with out permission will be asked to leave immediately and will suffer a 2 week suspension of all sk8 privileges including Monday nights. This is my last warning on this subject.

NOW FOR THE FIRST AND ONLY WARNING YOU WILL EVER GET!

a situation arose at the barn on Saturday night. Several kids who will remain nameless were skating. I was having a family get together and was in the pool room. A parent came to the pool room and screamed at me where is my son. My response was in the barn. Well no one was in the barn. The parent advised the state police called and told them to pick up their children at the barn. By now several parents were there. After calling the state police I found out they were supposed to go to the end of the road. Long story short the skaters decided to take a walk and do ILLEGAL DRUGS!. They got caught by the police. YOUR FIRST AND ONLY WARNING IS THIS: IF YOU DO ILLEGAL DRUGS, POSSESS ILLEGAL DRUGS AND ARE CAUGHT ON MY FATHERS PROPERTY YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED VIA POLICE ESCORT AND WILL LOSE ALL SKATE PRIVILEGES FOR EVER!!!

Super news: at this point I am so upset with the situation that I can not remember any great moments from last week. I’m sure that their was some good ones but all I can think about Is the task that I have to perform to continue our DRUG FREE club.

TRUCK TIP

this weeks tip is very simple. I love our club and do not want it to cease due to a few bad apples. The waiver forms we all signed clearly state NO ILLEGAL DRUGS. They also state that you skate at your own risk. To parents this means: I AM NOT A GUARDIAN, BABY SITTER, CHAPERONE NOR A COACH. I help the kids how ever I can with skating but am by no means responsible for your child’s actions. I will enforce when I am at the farm but remember it is your responsibility to provide a way out If they get into trouble being injury or police problems. The rules of off beat sessions may be changed due to recent events but for now WE ALL NEED TO REREAD THE RULES AND REMEMBER TO OBEY THEM.

Issue 24 04-14-2002

wow! Last week was great. We had a great turn out and several of you heeded my advice and actually started to work on a trick instead of the same old thing.

Last weeks meeting with the board went well. We have decided to have a T-shirt drive to raise money for the club. Unfortunately we will have to collect money before we order the shirts. Shirts are $10.00. There is a sign up sheet to order your shirt. Remember we need the money first. We also talked about the contest. We have decided that we will have a contest in late May or early June. We will have the date and times etc. at a later date. We are also working on a summer camp idea. The camp will be for three days and will be over a week end. We are just skating the idea around for now. So I need input from kids and parrents. We (team geezer) believe that the cost will be $50.00. None of this money will go to the club nor the geezers. The money will be for the camp only. We also have a special event planned for the camp. This will not be disclosed to the skaters it is a surprise how ever if a parent would like to know we will disclose information to them only. Don’t forget to sign up for a shirt.

super news

last weeks high light was Beth Boderck. Beth is the mother of David. She (this is not a lie) padded up and put on a helmet and was pumping on the mini ramp!! I would not believe it if I did not see it myself. Other news Chad W. made an axle stall. Sean U. made it over the spine. Quickie made a 360 rock-n-roll several times. And last but not least Ethan C. got to take home a battle scar from dropping in on funtastik. I wonder if Ethan had a black eye from his crash?

truck tip

confidence rules

in light of last weeks events this weeks tip is more of a pat on the back to the skaters. All of you have been improving each week and it shows. Your confidence levels are increasing and you are now skating with authority. Now the bad news. Some of your confidence needs to be toned down. Although you are trusting your abilities more and more occasionally you will trust too much thus you get yourself into a bad situation. Their was several bad falls last week due to skaters trying things that they are not ready to try. Just because you make a trick one time does not mean you can now move on the next harder trick. Each trick needs to be done a thousand times before it is mastered then move on to the next harder trick. I am truly glad that you all have been getting better and are willing to take the risks but remember there is always another day to make that harder trick.

Issue 23 04-05-2002

Lets just look back a few months and think about the way sk8 club has grown. It all started with a few older guys (now called ‘TEAM GEEZER’) that wanted to have some fun and try to regain our youthful thoughts. Speaking for myself my bones ache and my ego is bigger than ever. (That is pretty big). If you ask the rest of T-G you will surely find the same answer to the question I was posed on the phone the other day. Q: Do you do birthday parties? A: It is just a matter of time till some one is closer to join our team but: ARE THEY GOOD ENOUGH? Well that was not the answer but it sounded good. The answer is certainly you can have a birthday party at the ramps. It will not cost a member a dime. But the phone call was from a non member! I feel that this is a great opportunity to generate new members. If not members than money for the club. I will approach the board on this.

WEB SITE

wow the web site is just awesome! I check it out every day and something new is happening all the time. The movies are great! Expect to see yourself on the site at any givin time. So keep surfing or should I say "cyberboarding" on the site.

SUPER NEWS

CHECK THIS OUT: our newest member (41 strong) Sam M. dropped in on the mini ramp. It was only his second time at the ramp!!! Yeeeeeehaaaaaa Sam keep rippin it!. The not so super news is that all I talk about is dropping in! Some of you that have been with the club for a while (Dave B, Dave C, Clay H, Sean U, Pat G, QUICKIE, Nate D, Kevin K, Genis D, Aly S, DAN BROWN) it is time to move on and impress me!!!@!!!!!@!!!#$@%@%!$*&%*%*%(

TRUCK TIP

‘the mirror effect’

first you must fakie (this means go up a wall and not turn) on both walls. Then you have created a mirror on both walls. Then you must learn to kick turn to either side (front or back) on that wall and do the opposite on the other wall (thus the mirror effect). If you can flow front to back side or back to front side on any trick the mirror effect will enhance the illusion of great skating. And on top of that it will be the "triumph of the trick" and the "ultimate satisfaction" to be able to do it

"SWITCH"

last week was rather small compared to previous weeks. How ever it was a really good session. Still keep seeing new faces how ever we have had no new memberships lately. Some of you still have not paid your dues yet! An effort needs to be made by these people. You know who you are. Very soon you will not be able to continue to skate unless an effort to pay them is in order. It is only fair to skaters that have paid their dues. Besides the point skate club is now back in debt.

WATER COOLER

I purchased a brand new hot/cold water cooler this week end. If it is not here today than it will be for next Monday. The cost was $151.00 plus tax. I tried the ebay thing for a new or used one and could only find used ones between $100.00 & $130.00. I found several new ones at $179.00 plus shipping of $24.00 so I made some phone calls and Galens of ephrata (a local dept. store) had new ones for $184.00 so I sweet talked the sales manager who happens to be one of my best friends and justified our cause so he gave us a deal at the $151.00. Some times it pays to lower your head and BEG if you know what I mean.

Super news

several dropins on the funtastik ramp still no one new made it. Keep trying sk8ers your getting closer. How ever Thad G. Dropped the mini ramp on Saturday and made the hump for the first time. Although I did not see it I got an excited phone call from Thad’s Dad. So I’ll take it as truth. Good work Thad.

Truck tip "bailing out"

among keeping your gear in tact and making sure your equipment fits properly bailing is the safest thing you can do. How ever I am seeing to many run outs. Learning to when to bail and how to bail correctly allows a safer crash. Running out allows for BROKEN ANKLES. So the correct time to bail should be when you are uncomfortable with the situation the correct way is ALWAYS knees first then elbows. (Hopefully not helmet next.) Learn to bail correctly at all times do not run the crash out you WILL get hurt. A controlled fall is a safe fall learning how to fall is the first step to control. Trust me all of us will bail more than we skate for a long time to come so DON’T FAIL TO BAIL properly.

Issue 21

another great week last week. What is up with the weather? The past few weeks it has been rather cold. While the day before and
the day after it has been real nice. Hopefully soon we will have great weather all the time to have some super rad sessions.

Board meeting

the board met last week for the first time. We discussed several issues. The most prominent issues were the water cooler and the contest.

We all agreed that the cooler is first in the future for the club. The contest tentatively will be the week end of memorial day how ever
that issue is still under discussion. Also a T-shirt drive may be in our future as well to help generate some money for the club.
I am also proud to say that the club is now out of debt. We owe nothing to any one so now that we are in the red lets get way ahead.

Super news

wow did any one see tim? He is really ripping up the new ramp! For those of you that don’t know tim he is on the board and will help you if you want it.
A lot of other kids still thinking of dropping however no one new made it last week. Chad w. almost made his first axle stall. Keep trying.
Clay did make a sketchy 50/50. Genis is really pumping well. Time to work on kick turns genis!!!

Truck tip

"IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FLOW"

this is aimed at the lower caliber skaters however some of you that skate better should heed to this as well because it will help you in the future.

When pumping and doing your runs smoothness or flow is the key to a successful run. Sharp erratic turns and tricks will slow your speed considerably.
Try arcing your kick turns or as skaters call it carving. This will increase speed and flow more easily to the next wall. Even at the pumping level flow is
what lets you gain speed. So you know when you have a good pump it feels good right? Well the same goes for all other tricks. If the flow is right
it feels good. Don’t force the tricks this will interrupt the flow. Flow your self into and out of the trick and they will be easier and you will make more of them!

Sk8 hard and rip it up!$#%^&*()^&*(

Issue 20

I’m not quite sure what happened last week but for some reason there was less skaters than previous weeks.
It was still a good session. A few new faces continue to show up each week and of course the club continues to grow with that.

I have researched a few idea on a porta john and the water cooler. The water cooler is more feasible for the club as of right now.
Skate club still is not quite out of debt but it is very close. The cooler will cost about $150 for one that we will plug in and it will have
both hot and cold water. I am concerned whether or not the electric in the barn will handle it. I am going to research that some more.
The porta john on the other hand is a much larger issue. The john will cost $80 a month. Skate club does not have that kind of money
at this point of its infancy. So for now all girls you are welcome to use the house bathroom just ask. Boys use the house if needed other
wise go around the barn to the field. Do not go in areas where people walk and or you can be easily seen. This issue will take some time
to settle so we will do the best we can for now.

Super news

wow!! The new ramp skates great! I have never seen so many kids try to drop in at the same time on the same ramp. Well just to mention a few.
Dave b., Quickie, and David C. tried or thought about it most of the night. On the other hand Tom M. made it along with a few others that I can not remember names.

With every one dropping in lets remember this after you drop your skate is not over. The ones of you that are making it seem to bail or stop
immediately after you drop. Dropping is the start of your run not the finish. So when you do make it continue your run even if it is just pumping.
All of you need to work on kick turns and if you continue the run and try these things it will be sooner than you think and you’ll be "AIRING OUT".

New subject

TRUCK TIP’S

I am going to try weekly to give a little tip on skating. Hopefully Buster and a few other professional skaters will give their advice from time to time to help us get better. So here goes!

"FOLLOW THE LEADER"

no I am not your leader how ever your Head is. Your head is the center of all of your body movements. It controls what and when you do them as well as the lead of direction.
A lot of skater tend to skate with there arms and kips to guide them. Well although these are the most physical movements to make a turn it NOT the most important.
Your head initiates the turn controls the body movement. You must turn your head to the place you want to go. If you do not you will not make the turn.
Start looking at your spot with your head first not your body.

Issue 19

another great one last week. We had 29 skaters at one point!! Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa the club is growing every week!!!!!

the new ramp went over well how ever there was some complaints of the kink. Well the kink is gone for now.
It may need future attention but at this point it is perfect thanks to tom b and a few other hard workers over the week end.

NEW BOARD MEMBERS!!!!@

First I would like to introduce Tim Shealer. Tim is a guidance consoler for criminally demented youths.
He will fit right in with our club although we will leave the criminal part out.

Welcome a "BOARD" TIM. Tim is a very accomplished skater and will help you when you need it. Don’t be afraid to ask.

ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF SK8 CLUB !!

last week by the end of the night the skaters elected their representation. Your elected members are:

Dustin "quickie" Quickel, Clayton Kyler, Shawn Urich,

Chad Weyandt, David Boderck, Kevin Pifer, Pat Gephart

if you have any thing you would like to discuss or improve these skaters are the channels you should use.

SUPER NEWS

the kinks are out of the new ramp and its time to skate it hard. Last week there was several skaters that tried to
drop on vert for the first time. A couple of you made it too!!! I am very pleased to see that the new ramp has a lot of interest.
Myself, a few parents and skaters have put a lot of time and effort into the ramp over the last few weeks. SO IT IS NOW TIME TO
